World’s largest video game collection sells for over $750,000

When we first stumbled upon the auction for the Guinness-certified "World's Largest Video Game Collection" a few weeks ago, bidding had only reached $50,000, short of the auction reserve price. When the GameGavel auction came to a close late Sunday night, though, the price was significantly higher: $750,250 to be exact. According to the GameGavel price history, the bulk of the bidding action took place last Wednesday, as users "catch123" and "peeps_10091970" rapidly outbid one another from a starting point of $150,000. The final bid has yet to be publicly verified, though, so it's still possible this could be another hoax bidding situation similar to the one surrounding a $100,000 Nintendo World Championship cartridge auction earlier this year. If the sale goes through at this price, though, it will be among the largest single sales of video game items in history. It won't be the largest, though; a 7,000-game set, including "complet

GameStick Review and Giveaway

Not too long ago, a craze hit Kickstarter in a huge way. That craze was the Android micro-console. First, the OUYA (which we reviewed) exploded on Kickstarter. Immediately after that, the much smaller  GameStick  hit the crowd-funding service, and while it did not explode in the same way as the OUYA, it still commanded far beyond its funding goal. Now, months later, we have the $79 GameStick and its controller in our hands, and we’ve had some time to explore the games available, and of course, play them. How is the console? How does it compare to the OUYA, or even a more traditional game console? Keep reading the review to find out. We bought this GameStick ourselves, we’ve tested it, and now we are giving it away to one lucky reader! Find out how to win your own GameStick, so you can get in and enjoy some Android gaming without spending a dime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHz12X8WqJo Introducing The GameStick The GameStick was designed to be the most affordable, open

Cuter, Harder, Better: Cut The Rope 2 Is A Puzzler For Kids & Adults

The original Cut The Rope was a super-hit, racing to the top of the charts on all app stores. It perfectly melded cute and fun graphics with gameplay that was accessible, yet challenging at the same time. Developer Zepto Labs teased the sequel with Twitter hashtags like #OmNomIsMissing. Om Nom, for the uninitiated, is the lead character of a Cut The Rope — a cute green monster who is always hunting for candy. And in his zeal to protect all his candy, he was trapped by spiders and is now lost in the jungle. Cut The Rope 2  ($0.99) is all about getting Om Nom back to his home. Can Cut The Rope 2 live up to the standards of its predecessor and be one of the best iPhone games? Back To Basics The basic gameplay mechanics of the original Cut The Rope remain intact in the sequel. The physics-based puzzler has pieces of candy in each level, usually tethered by a rope. You have to cut the ropes in the right order to get the candy into Om Nom’s mouth, who is sitting somewhere in

5 Biggest Video Game Industry Blunders In 2013

Video games have become a massive business. There’s a ton of money to be made, and lots of companies are trying to cash in. Yet designing, developing and supporting a title that goes beyond anything seen before isn’t easy, and it often leads to spectacular failure. Here are the five worst blunders, scandals and botched releases of 2013. SimCity’s Release Shenanigans Few games received more hype this year than  SimCity , and it’s easy to see why. The first new entry in the franchise to be released for ten years, the title promised to modernize city-building with attractive graphics and gameplay mechanics that computers simply couldn’t handle a decade ago. A relatively smooth beta and glowing previews elated fans who believed they would soon be diving into city-building nirvana. Then SimCity was released and, well, it didn’t really  work . Part of the title’s modernization included always-online play which promised a global market and collective gameplay, but the servers a
